Two weeks later after this picture Manny gave another $90,000 + 65,000 and some money he had already in account making the total to $180,000. It will be called the Emanual James Pappas Scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP DONATION - 🎓 Emanuel James Pappas 93 presents check of $65,000 for the Ahepa Bay State District # 8 Scholarship Program. Seated is Brother Emanuel J. Pappas showing check next to Peter G. Leasca, Past Supreme Governor, standing is Dalton Respass, District Governor, PSG and George P. Leasca, Vice President Morgan Stanley. The Ahepa District grants over 20 scholarships each year to students. Mr. Pappas and Mr. Peter Leasca have both been members of The Order Of AHEPA for 67 years. Dalton Respass has been active in Ahepa programs along with Ahepa past Athletic Director George Leasca. At one time we had 22 Massachusetts chapters.
Emanuel who is from Webster also has another scholarship fund from about 16 years ago or so.
He is one of 9 brothers from Webster. About 6 of the Pappas brothers were in WW I I. His mother was a volunteer Ambulance driver helping during WW II, plus making bandages for the war effort. She was also a founder of the Southbridge St. George Greek Orthodox Church.
Manny as we know him has one good eye is a professional tennis player. He still plays tennis at his age.
Note: Over the years we had numerous recipients from Worcester.
Peter L. Bell, a Past Supreme President donated $255,000 to the District Scholarship.
The District Scholarship was founded around 1949.

The Daughters of Penelope Bay State District #8 congratulate
the 2016 Bessie Lagadinos, PDG, Memorial Scholarship winners

Three students from throughout Massachusetts are the recipients of the first annual $2500.00 that will be distributed yearly through the Bessie Lagadinos, PDG Memorial Scholarship Fund. Sister Bessie Lagadinos,PDG , Worcester, MA was an over fifty (50) year active member of Theano Chapter #122 where she served every office. Sister Lagadinos went on to serve District 8 as a member of the Lodge rising to the office of Governor. She helped establish the district’s Education Fund and later the Charitable Fund. In her later years, she established the Bessie Lagadinos Scholarship. At our recent District Convention, District Governor Elaine Kevgas presented the first of what will become three annual, Bessie Lagadinos Memorial Scholarships. This year’s recipients are Dimitri Brachos, Elana Primes and Tali Twomey.

Vasili Brachos, the son of Vasilios and Katerina Manzani Brachos is a graduate of North Andover High School where he was a National Merit scholar who maintained a straight A. Dimitri, a John and Abigail Adams Scholarship recipient, winner of the Cornell Book Award, a National Honor Society member and the North Shore Scholars Honor, headed the Robotics Team and qualified for the World Championships and also captained both the Boys Indoor and Track teams. Dimitri will study Material Engineering and minor in Robotics. His long term goal is to earn his PHD in the field. He will be attending Berkeley.  In addition, Dimitri has been an active member and officer of SS Constantine and Helen Church GOYA, where he has participated in numerous community service activities such as feeding the hungry at Cor Unum and Lazarus House as well as a mission trip to Montana. Dimitri’s mother Katerina is an active member of Pallas Chapter #330 Lawrence

 Elana Primes, an Andover High School graduate is the daughter of Steve and Lisa Primes, Andover. Elana has been admitted to the School of Business at George Washington University with a Presidential Academic Scholarship. At Andover High Elana attended all AP classes throughout her four years. She was co-President of the Robotics Club, Board Member of DECA, Member of the National Honor Society and Volleyball Team. She is the recipient of the Excellence in Latin II, Excellence in Marketing, Excellence in Entrepreneurship, and Excellence in Contemporary World Issues Awards. Elana was an active member and officer of GOYA of SS Constantine and Helen Church, Andover. She is active in community service volunteering at an elderly residence facility weekly’, visiting two elderly women in their homes to check on their welfare, raking leaves for seniors,  serving at Cor Unum feeding the hungry, volunteering at Girls, Inc, Lowell helping underprivileged girls, and is a Greek School Teacher’s Assistant. Elana could not attend the Convention as she was at Ionian Village. Elana’s mother Lisa is a member of Pallas Chapter #330, Lawrence.  

                Daughter of Mr. and Mrs. James Twomey and granddaughter of Past District Governor Thelma Twomey,.  Tali Twomey of Barnstable High School  will study at Springfield College. Tali is involved in community service in the Cape Cod area including volunteering for abused women. She volunteers for Feeding the Hungry and “Big Fix” where she performs yard work for the elderly. Tali states:” being able to give back whenever I can feels amazing and makes me a better person.”
